The founder of Girl Getup Africa, Sweety Aborchie, has launched the GGU Mentee Book Club, a new initiative aimed at empowering young women.
The inaugural event, held last Saturday at e-Ananse, was described by Aborchie as intimate and empowering, highlighting the depth of thought and determination among the participants.
The Multimedia Group news anchor expressed her amazement at their desire to transform their lives, noting how their shared experiences reignited her passion for the community.
The book club focuses on literature that aligns with the theme "Awake, Aware, and Achieving." During the first session, participants engaged with 'Becoming' by Michelle Obama, 'Finding Me' by Viola Davis, and 'We Should All Be Feminists' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
These books provided inspiration and reflection, perfectly fitting the club's goals of personal growth and empowerment.
Feedback from the mentees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing their experiences on Instagram.
They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the program free of charge and appreciated the chance to meet influential leaders who led the book reading sessions.
One participant described the experience as life-changing, while another mentioned how it broadened their perspective and motivated them to pursue their dreams with greater determination.
Aborchie expressed her profound gratitude for the chance to share her life with such motivated young women, emphasizing the enriching experiences the book club provides.
She looks forward to the continued growth and impact of the initiative, which aims to foster a community of like-minded, empowered young women.
