Child Online Africa, in collaboration with World Vision International - Ghana, has announced its firm stance against the involvement of minors in political campaigns.
Under the banners of "No Child Abuse in Elections" and "Ethical Campaigns Only," this initiative aims to shield Ghanaian children from the potential long-term consequences of such exposure.
The organizations say children's digital footprints and online reputations are at significant risk when they participate in political activities.
In a release signed by the Executive Director of Child Online Africa and the head of World Vision, Ghana, they indicated that the inappropriate or exploitative use of their images, videos, and personal information can lead to cyberbullying, privacy breaches, and lasting damage to their future prospects.
The child-friendly organizations note that the emotional and psychological toll on children caught in the political spotlight can be detrimental to their development and well-being.
Child Online Africa in association with World Vision Ghana thus calling on all political parties and candidates in Ghana to refrain from involving children in their campaigns.
“Instead, we advocate for ethical practices that prioritize the protection and privacy of minors, ensuring their digital legacies remain untarnished and their futures bright.
By adhering to these principles, we can collectively safeguard the digital footprints of our children and ensure their well-being remains at the forefront of our societal values,” the release stated.
