Four years after Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later, Sparrows Production is treating Ghanaians once again to a new drama-filled and fun-packed movie.
The new project ‘Two Of A Kind’ was unveiled on Saturday, July 6, during a press soiree at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
Starring in the film are veteran Nigerian actress Rita Dominic and Ghanaian stars including Gloria Safo, Adoma, Michael Katahena, Akrobeto and Akosua Adjepong.
Also in the new film are some casts of Akwaaba TV’s Madam and Dede series including Dean Amegashie, Gideon Kojo Boakye, and Arion Amon.
Again, Sparrows Production has recruited new talent including Jessica Larny, Chiderah David, Sena Fafali Ahiagble, Bless K. S. Agyeman and Sena Agbeko, among others who are expected to shine.
Speaking at the event, writer and director at the helm of this movie, Shirley Frimpong Manso, revealed the movie addresses several issues including love, loss, mental health, social media influence and addiction, among other things.
“It's a romantic movie and I don't want to give a lot away but you've seen the ensemble cast. We’re very excited about it. It's going to be fun, one of the people I'm proud we've brought on board is Akrobeto. We're going to have a lot of fun. It's going to be juicy.”
Additionally, Shirley Frimpong Manso said that despite the struggles she has encountered as a Ghanaian filmmaker, she is determined to unearth new talent and see the industry grow.
“I love it when new people get the chance to do their thing, I think that is what makes a thriving industry, bringing the old and new together, letting the new learn from the old,” the filmmaker said on her decision to cast many new faces.
“I dream, sleep, think, and eat this industry. I love this job even though it kills me, but this is what I love to do. We're not going to stop,” Shirley Frimpong Manso added.
Rita Dominic, also speaking at the event, expressed enthusiasm not just for the project but also for working with one of Ghana's best filmmakers Shirley Frimpong Manso.
“This (Two of a Kind) is such a lovely script. I like that it touches on everything. It's a feel-good movie and I think it will appeal to different generations. There's something in there for everyone. So I am looking forward to this process.”
“I particularly like Shirley for giving young people a platform. There are so many talented young people in Africa and many times they look for a platform so they can show the world what they have. So I am glad you're doing this. I'm looking forward to creating art with Shirley as our pilot,” she said.
Rita Dominic also stressed the importance of collaborations like this explaining that it helps position Africa’s film industry and its potential to investors.
“It is important that we're doing this, Nigeria-Ghana, I am glad that this is happening," the actress added.
Also at the movie’s unveiling were Lydia Forson, Naa Ashorkor, Joselyn Dumas, Jasmine Baroudi and radio and TV personality KOD, who is working on the music for Two Of A Kind.
Lydia Forson urged the new young actors to give their best for the project, assuring them that having a role in the Sparrows Production film meant they earned their spot and deserved it.
Meanwhile, Two Of A Kind is expected to hit the Silver Bird Cinemas this December.
