The National Sports Authority are not “sound financially” to maintain facilities across the country, says Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum.
Various stadia across the country are in a deteriorating state and not deemed fit for competitions.
The major ones - Accra Sports Stadium, Tamale Stadium, Baba Yara and Cape Coast stadia - will have to undergo renovations before use.
“The pitch is one, the washrooms are not the best, sometimes the stands, the seats are dirty,” Henry told JoySports.
“When you ask, it boils down to the same reason, the fact that they [NSA] do not have the funds to maintain these facilities.
“From Tamale to Accra to Baba Yara to Sekondi to Cape Coast, the problem is the same.”
All attention has been shifted to the newly built Legon Sports Stadium, which since its African Games usage, has hosted the Women’s FA Cup final, Men’s FA Cup final and CAF U-17 WAFU B Cup of Nations.
