Contractors on the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal project are yet to receive payments for work done since November 2023.
The project currently stands at 40 percent complete in a contract sum of 308 million dollars.
The Parliamentary select Committee on Roads and Transport is advocating prompt payments to ensure project completion by September 2026.
Chairman of the committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, who is impressed with the work done, wants the Ministry of Transport to work towards meeting the financial obligations to the contractors.
“We were told that the contractor since November has not been paid. All IPCs that have been raised have not been honored. I am pleading with the Ministry and government that this project is a great project not for only the Ashanti Region but the entire northern sector”, he said.
Justmoh Construction are currently executing the contract after the concessionaire, Ashanti Port Services failed to meet financial obligations for the Boankra Inland Port project.
A total 160 hectares of land is being developed for the project that will handle both imports and exports from the northern parts of the country and neighboring countries.
Presently, about 12.2 kilometres of roads within the terminal is under construction, with hydrological works largely completed.
The Parliamentary Committee has requested all documentation leading to the abrogation of the contract of the former concessionaires, Ashanti Port Services.
“We have already requested for all correspondence leading to the termination of the contract. If we get those documents we will get proper understanding of all the issues”, Kennedy Osei Nyarko added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport says processes are far advanced to regularize the contract of Justmoh Construction who are executing the project.
So far, the Public Procurement Agency and Ministry of Finance have given the necessary approval for the regularization of the contract.
CEO of Justmoh Construction, Justice Amoh has assured of willingness to complete the project within schedule.
“As contractors, we see this project as a national asset and a viable project. With the help of our bankers we have stayed on site executing the project. We also plead with the Honourable Members to see how best they can use their influence to ensure the release of funds”, he emphasized.
The Eastern and Western rail lines when developed will ensure effective operationalization of the Boankra inland port.
