The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has stated that the selection of Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as the running mate for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections was based on his extensive experience.
On Monday, Dr. Bawumia disclosed his choice of running mate to the national executives of the NPP.
According to him, this took place following thorough consultations with President Akufo-Addo and Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Mr. Boakye aka Nana-B, in an interview on Citi FM on Monday, elaborated that Dr. Bawumia’s decision to select Dr. Opoku Prempeh was largely influenced by his extensive experience.
He emphasised that Dr Bawumia’s experience as a running mate and a vice president played a crucial role in the selection process.
Additionally, Mr. Boakye highlighted the comprehensive consultations that Dr. Bawumia conducted as part of the decision-making process.
These consultations were integral in finalising the choice of Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate.
The NPP National Organiser expressed confidence that the combination of Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh would be a formidable team, capable of leading the party to success in the forthcoming elections.
“His Excellency the Vice President is making this decision with a huge wealth of experience. Why do I say so? In 2008 he was the running mate, in 2012 he was the running mate, in 2016 he was the running mate and we won, in the 2020 elections he was again.
"His Excellency the president nominated him again to be his running mate. So he’s been eight years or more running mate and eight years vice president.”
“He’s made this decision based on his own experience, the consultation he’s done. So clearly you will expect such a man to come before national executives with some convincing and detailed reasons why he wants Dr Matthew Opoku to partner with him,” he stated.
