The Divisional Executive Council of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of TUC (Ghana) NIA-Division has expressed dissatisfaction with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and other government stakeholders over their handling of ongoing negotiations.
This follows the National Labour Commission's (NLC) directive issued on June 12, 2024, which outlined specific steps for the negotiation process.
The NLC's directive mandated that the parties must agree on the next adjourned date for the negotiation meeting if the meeting is inconclusive.
Another directive was for the parties to report their progress to the NLC by July 3, 2024.
Despite these directives, the PSWU-NIA Division has accused the FWSC of failing to honor their agreement to reconvene on June 21, 2024, at 5 pm at the FWSC premises.
Instead, the FWSC reportedly met with the NIA management without involving the unions, a move the PSWU-NIA Division sees as an act of bad faith and a breach of the NLC directive.
In response to this perceived misconduct, the PSWU-NIA Division has issued an ultimatum.
"The PWSU by this, wishes to inform all stakeholders that if on or before 3rd of July 2024, a meeting is not
convened to continue the negotiation and by extension conclude on negotiations, we will have no other option than to advice ourselves after 3rd July 2024 without further notice," the Division said in a statement.
To demonstrate their dissatisfaction and solidarity, the PSWU-NIA Division has directed all members to wear red or black attire with red armbands to the office starting July 1, 2024.
Members were also encouraged to use placards with the slogan #FixOurConditionsOfServiceNow among others.
