Ghanaian midfielder, Mohammed Kudus, has praised his Black Stars teammate, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, for his impressive campaign in the English Championship with Leicester City last season.
Fatawu, who joined Sporting Lisbon from Steadfast FC in 2022, struggled to establish himself in the senior team, despite making his debut against Rio Ave in August 2022.
He later joined Leicester City on loan for the 2023/24 season, where he immediately made an impact.
The 19-year-old delighted Leicester fans throughout the season, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions helped Leicester secure a return to the English top flight, and he was awarded the club's Young Player of the Season.
Speaking after being named Ghanaian Footballer of the Year, Mohammed Kudus acknowledged the achievements of his Black Stars teammate, who was also nominated for the award.
“As part of the new generation, one of my aims is to increase the love and unity between us. This season, he [Fatawu] has pushed me a lot, and I have pushed him a lot too,” Kudus said.
He added, “I have told him this already, but I would like to use this opportunity to tell everyone how proud I am of his journey, how far he has come, and what he has achieved this season at Leicester. This is a source of motivation for him, me, and all the upcoming players of our generation.”
Fatawu is expected to continue his stint at Leicester City in the Premier League, as the club has agreed to purchase him on a permanent basis from Sporting Lisbon.
