Veteran Highlife artiste and Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), Rex Omar, has clarified his stance on political appointments should former President John Mahama win the election.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Rex Omar initially refuted claims of seeking a political appointment but later explained his reasons for venturing into politics.
"I went into politics because of this creative economy," he stated.
As a known affiliate of the NDC, Rex Omar has participated in demonstrations against the Akufo-Addo government.
However, he emphasised that his support for Mahama is not driven by personal interests but rather a desire for a good government that can create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The ‘Abiba’ hit-maker elaborated that as a musician and entrepreneur, he believes that a well-structured creative economy can benefit many in the industry.
He cited instances where investments in the creative economy have led to successful record labels and businesses, generating opportunities for people in the creative space.
While Rex Omar is not actively seeking a political appointment, he stated that as a citizen and a member of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, he would accept any role offered by the government if they believe he can contribute his skills and expertise.
Rex Omar, staunch member of the National Democratic Congress, is part of the NDC manifesto committee that oversees the culture and creative industries.
