Title sponsors of the Ghana Women's Premier League, Malta Guinness, organized a capacity-building workshop for selected players across all 20 top-flight clubs.
Two players from each team were selected for the first edition of the workshop.
The event which took place at the Guinness Ghana Breweries premises at Achimota ABC junction on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, is part of the brand's plan to improve the communication levels of the players in terms of their public speaking as well as talk to them about their personal and social media branding.
The idea of the workshop was also to prepare the players for life after the end of their respective football careers.
Former Black Queens player and head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo was one of the three personnel who spoke to the players on the day.
She shared her experience of blending football and work and planning for her future after she retired from football.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, she told Joy Sports: "I believe this is a very good program for these girls. During my time, we didn't get anything like this."
"I think it's okay; life is about planning so if you bring such football players here like this to this place, I believe it will go a long way to let them understand that there is always life after football...get this opportunity is a step in the right direction."
Head of Public Relations and Strategy, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, also praised the initiative by Malta Guinness highlighting the importance of the workshop.
"We spoke to [the players] about public speaking...they will be speaking to public so it was to break it to a level where they could understand that public speaking is not that difficult an act," he added.
"It is an act that they need to grow their careers and also to promote the game of football and promote the interest of the sponsors of the Women's Premier League, in our particular case, the Malta Guinness."
On her path, the Marketing Manager for the Adult Premium Non-Alcoholic drinks at Guinness Ghana, Dinah Adu-Asare, detailed the decision to come up with the capability-building workshop.
"We believe that there is life after football, we believe there is life beyond the pitch. As a brand, we thought about how we could invest in these women to prepare them for life after football," she said.
"Today, we brought together resource people; some old players who are doing very well even after playing to come and encourage them, to share their stories with them and also direct them on how to make a better life after football.
"We also had a personal branding and social media expert to take them through their personal branding and to put themselves out there. I am very happy hearing the girls and seeing their visions and their ambitions."
Malta Guinness Ghana has been the headline sponsor of the women's top flight in the last two seasons.
Hasaacas Ladies claimed the league title in the just-ended season after beating rivals Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the final at the University of Ghana.
