The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), in collaboration with Engage Now Africa, a non-profit organisation, has organised a workshop on human trafficking in Ho.
The workshop attracted over 200 participants, including representatives from government agencies and traditional chiefs across the region.
The workshop focused on educating participants about the nature, causes, and impacts of human trafficking, emphasizing its health and economic ramifications.
It also introduced Engage Now Africa’s comprehensive intervention programs designed to combat human trafficking and related exploitation.
These initiatives include community stakeholder forums, educational and sensitization events, community-based discussions, trafficking-free road campaigns, rescue operations, advocacy, media engagement, and coalition-building.
Participants hinted at the region’s alarming human trafficking rates in 2023 and actively engaged in discussions, raising significant questions throughout the workshop.
Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Regional Minister, who presided over the meeting, along with the Chief Coordinating Director, expressed deep appreciation for Engage Now Africa’s significant efforts in addressing human trafficking in Ghana.
They pledged to work closely with the NGO across all 18 districts and constituencies within the region to effectively tackle these issues.
Afasi Komla, Director of Engage Now Africa and End Modern Slavery, lauded the Regional Minister and his team for their readiness to collaborate.
He also thanked the participants for their engagement and urged them to act as ambassadors in the fight against human trafficking.
Madam Barbara, Coordinator at Engage Now Africa, encouraged participants to report any suspected trafficking or exploitative activities to the police or via available helplines.
The event saw the participation of the Regional Minister, the Chief Coordinating Director, Chiefs, Municipal and District Executives, and various Heads of Departments.
