St. Francis Xavier SHS is aiming to restore its lost glory in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after securing a national slot in a grand and masterful win.
The two-time finalist of the competition has since their participation in the grand finale a decade ago, suffered major setbacks, ending their quest to lift their first trophy.
But the blue-shirt boys from Upper West are anticipating a better year to eventually rekindle their flames and win the ultimate prize.
There was exhilaration at the Wa regional library after the school together with Queen of Peace SHS booked their seats at the national stage.
Jubilant supporters of St. Francis Xavier SHS went out shouting and chanting their school’s anthem, beseeching their forebearers to pray for them.
It has been a rough ride for the school in the national competition following their last appearance at the grand finale in 2014.
The farthest the school has been in the national championship over the last 10 years is the quarterfinal stage.
But after their 62-point win, they are ready to reclaim their stance as the pride of the Upper West in the national competition.
They are eyeing their first national trophy this year after several failed attempts.
Their joy was similarly shared in the camp of the Catholic students from Nadowli, Queen of Peace SHS.
The school beat Wa SHTS, Wa Islamic SHS, and Kaleo SHS to book a seat.
The first round of the contest was a shaky start for the school after trailing Kaleo SHS who led the round.
But contestants of the school would not relent until the contest took a dramatic turn in their favour, eventually winning with 32 points.
