The Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Dr. Prah George Kwame, has released an incident report regarding the case of an alleged patient who was abandoned in a bush by the hospital.
According to Dr. George Kwame's report, the patient involved was an unidentified individual who had been injured in a hit-and-run incident on May 29 in the Gomoa Ojobi community.
The hospital was informed of the patient's condition by the National Ambulance Service, prompting a call from the Social Welfare Officer to ascertain the hospital's readiness to receive the patient.
In his report to the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. George Kwame stated that upon arrival, the patient was admitted and provided with thorough care and empathy by the hospital staff.
Despite the absence of family members to cater to the medical expenses, the patient received the necessary treatment.
The incident report aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the patient's admission and treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital amid public concern over allegations of abandonment.
“After the necessary examinations were done, Plaster of Paris (POP) was cast on both lower limbs of the patient due to fracture of the tibia bones. The hospital as usual took absolute responsibility for feeding, medication and housekeeping of the patient."
“The patient had been on admission for six (6) days and was finally discharged on 3rd June, 2024 after being declared well. The medical record is tendered in as evidence,” portions of his report said.
