Schools in the Upper West region are preparing to secure a slot at the national stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz competition.
Five schools, which qualified to the 2023 edition failed to forge on to the quarterfinal stage, denying the region a spot amongst the seeded schools for this year’s contest.
St. Francis Xavier SHS, who were the only seeded school from the regional contest last year, is joining over twenty schools in the regional qualifiers to book a seat at the nationals.
As the pride of the region in the NSMQ, St. Francis Xavier SHS is beginning their journey from the regional qualifiers after losing their seed to the Ghana Secondary Technical School.
The school has in the last five years suffered major setbacks failing to secure a seed spot in most of its participation.
The onus now lies on its present contestants to restore its lost glory.
After kicking out Nandom SHS last year, St. Francis of Assisi Girls SHS were sent packing by Achimota School at the national stage.
Their colleagues, Wa SHS, Lawra SHS and Queen of Peace SHS lost their chance to secure a seed for the region.
But the schools are poised to reclaim their status in the 2024 edition.
Twenty-three schools in the Upper West region are set to square up in the regional qualifiers for one of the five spots at the national tournament.
Nandom SHS, which is seeking to comeback after missing out last year, will be in a heated contest with Lawra SHS, Jirapa SHS, Ko SHS and Daffiama SHS.
The stakes are high for the schools to ably represent their region.
