The leadership of the Muslim community in the Agotime Ziope District of the Volta Region has cautioned youth of the Islamic faith not to allow themselves to be used as conduits for political violence.
The Kpetoe Zongo Chief, Mubarak Mumuni II reminded them that Islam is a religion of universalism, tolerance, peace, and reconciliation, hence they must be guided by such in their actions.
He was speaking to Joy News during the Eid ul Adha prayers in Kpetoe.
He called for unity to prevent evil-minded people from infiltrating the Muslim community to cause violence.
“This community falls between Ghana and Togo and makes it easy for bad people to penetrate the country and cause mayhem. So you must be vigilant of such people.
Islam is for peace and we always have to advocate for peace. People always think that Muslims always cause mayhem, but that is not the case. Islam teaches us to be peaceful.
"So what I will tell my youth is that they should be peaceful and united. You know when you are united, nobody can come and cause problems in your community”, he stressed.
The Kpetoe Chief Imam, Alh Abdul Rahman led believers of the Islamic faith to say the Eid ul Adha prayers at the Customs, Excise, and Preventive Training Academy park. to signify the day followed by a fest.
In his sermon, he entreated Muslims to continue to uphold the values of Islam.
“Islam means peace, we need peace in our community to have development. Without peace, the community can not develop. So all we seek is peace and thus will attract investors into our communities and it will bring development”, he said.
Eid ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice is the second major Muslim festival after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.
It is also the end of Hajj, a five-day pilgrimage all able-bodied and financially capable Muslims are obliged to undertake once in their lifetime.
