Listeners of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show voiced their frustration and disappointment with the government’s handling of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, during a call-in segment on the popular morning programme.
The callers expressed deep concern and sadness over the current state of affairs, criticising the government's efforts as insufficient and ineffective in curbing the rampant illegal mining activities that have plagued the country.
Many listeners lamented the environmental destruction and socio-economic issues arising from galamsey, highlighting the adverse effects on local communities and the nation's natural resources.
Since assuming office, President Akufo-Addo has launched Operation Vanguard and Operation Halt and many policies to combat the menace.
However, the feedback from Joy FM listeners indicates a growing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of progress.
Many also believe that government appointees are now involved in the activity.
