The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia anticipates that traditional door-to-door census methods will soon become obsolete, because technology can help get accurate population numbers in easier ways.
According to him, Ghana will soon be able to track its population in real-time, thanks to digitalisation, making traditional census methods unnecessary.
Dr Bawumia thinks that Ghana will no longer need to do a big census count every 10 years, because digital technology will make it possible to keep track of the population in a faster and more efficient way.
Addressing the clergy in Accra on Tuesday, June 4, as part of his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region, Dr Bawumia said the government's plan to modernise the economy using technology is working.
“Very soon and I mean, maybe within the next few years, our census will be almost digital because we will know how many people have died from birth and death, we know how many people are born.”
“It will not be necessary to physically go and count anybody, because the data will be available, on a daily basis about the population at any point in time…”Dr Bawumia said.
