The Ghacem Cement Foundation has held the 2023/2024 edition of the donation ceremony in Koforidua.
The ceremony brought together, health and educational Institutions in the Southern sector to receive their allocations for their projects.
A total of 13,840 bags were handed over to these beneficiary institutions. The Northern Sector will also receive their allocation of 9,850 bags next month at a similar event in Sunyani.
Welcoming guests at for the Southern sector ceremony, the Commercial Director of Ghacem, Kwasi Kyere said Ghacem as a company that understands the profound impact of building strong and resilient communities has for over 57 years been not just a leader in the cement industry producing quality cement but has also strived hard to be a pillar of support and growth in Ghana through its flagship CSR program, the Ghacem Cement Foundation geared towards fostering development and enhancing lives across the nation.
The company, he added is committed to continuing this journey of support and development by enhancing its CSR with other novel activities including; a partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Department of Physics on a sponsored research project to improve the radio-mechanical shielding properties of the Ghacem Cement products and also the Ghacem Mobile Academy that trains cement users across the country on the usage of cement for optimum output.
Ghacem he assured will continue to care about the environment hence will make conscious effort to the reduction of CO2 in both its Tema and Takoradi plants.
Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the foundation in his address bemoaned the dilapidated nature of some schools and hospitals in deprived communities of the country which informed the birth of the Ghacem Cement Foundation. Since 2002 over 700,000 bags have been given freely to support the construction and improving the conditions of these schools and hospitals. “The Board and management are confident that these donations to the schools and hospitals will improve the various projects.
The Foundation, he informed, supports other special projects and is currently supporting the construction of a cancer unit for kids at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. “The project has begun and it is progressing well. We are going to help them till the completion of the entire project”.
Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI implored beneficiaries, past and present to use the Ghacem cement products always as they also contribute to the success of the Ghacem Cement Foundation.
On her part, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, a Council member for the Foundation said the Council gets joy to support projects initiated by communities themselves.
“We are even more proud to have witnessed that education and health which are two key sectors of the economy have benefitted immensely from this benevolence from Ghacem and as Council members we will continue to support and educate the public on the correct criteria for application and hope they in turn use the cement for the intended purpose when their application is honoured”.
Southern Sector Beneficiary Institutions
Some of the beneficiary Institutions from the Southern sector included: Apimpoa Islamic Basic School, Koforidua, Asafo Health Centre, Agona, Somanya R.C. JHS, Somanya, Madina S.D.A School, Madina, Ayikuma Methodist Basic Sch., Dodowa, Salvation Preparatory School, Dansoman, Beckleys Maternity Home, Kpando, King of Kings School Complex, Tsito, Vehem Maawunyo Int. Sch., Dzooze, Komuaman B/C School, Hohoe, Adaase Church of Christ School, Adaase etc.
Ghacem Ltd. has over the years invested in the socioeconomic development of the country with its key Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program; the Ghacem Cement Foundation (GCF) set up in 2002 to assist in the infrastructural development of health and educational Institutions in deprived communities of the country.
The foundation annually gives free cement bags to institutions across the country grouped into Southern (Central, Western, Western North, Volta, Oti, Eastern and Greater Accra Region) and Northern (Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Bono East, Bono, Ahafo and Ashanti Region) sectors as a support package for the institutions which are currently undertaken various infrastructural projects.
The foundation has since its inception given a total of 700,000 bags valued at GH₵54 million to these deprived communities across the country.
