Two women have been confirmed dead following a three-vehicle collision at Akuni No 2, a community in the Okere District on the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region.
The tragic incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
The deceased, a sports teacher and a national service person from the Yilo Krobo Senior High School, died instantly when the Toyota Corolla they were traveling in, registered GR 901-21, collided head-on with a pickup truck belonging to the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, registered GV 1263-20.
Another individual sustained life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital in Somanya.
The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, but sources suggest that the pickup truck allegedly attempted a wrongful overtaking on a curve, leading to the head-on collision with the Toyota Corolla.
Police personnel promptly arrived on the scene to begin their investigation and assisted residents and travelers in transporting the injured to the hospital.
Bernard Owusu Agyeman, who was driving a third vehicle involved in the accident, along with a Chinese national passenger, miraculously escaped unhurt.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, while police continue their search for the driver of the government truck involved in the crash.
