Two natives of Klefe-Demete in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region have made a unique contribution to improve sanitation, environmental sustainability and ensure public health in their community.
Samuel Ledo and Senyo Hosi financed the construction of a modern 24-seater toilet facility to address the long-standing issue of inadequate sanitation facilities, leading to open defecation in the community.
The new facility, which features modern amenities and a robust waste management system, is expected to serve over 200 residents in the community. The total cost of the project is GH₵200,000.
According to Samuel Ledo, they initiated the project out of passion, considering the vulnerability of the community to the outbreak of communicable diseases.
"We were touched by the vulnerability of the community and also guided by the UN SDG goal 6 which talks about water and sanitation. But more precisely we want the community to be in good health," he said.
He added that they intend to drill a borehole for the community to ensure the community has access to potable water.
A Resident Pastor of Winners Chapel Ghana, Jeffery Gawuga who represented Senyo Hosi praised the philanthropists for the great initiative, adding it was their dream to see the community develop hence the initiative.
The regent of Klefe Demete, Lambert Ledo stated that the project was a game-changer for the community.
"This toilet facility is a blessing to our community; we no longer have to worry about where to go when nature calls. It's a huge relief, and we're grateful to our children and Almighty God for the kind gesture,” he said.
