Musician and social commentator, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued a qualified apology to Ghanaian businessman Hassan Zein.
According to A-Plus, he is an advocate for fighting for the interests of the voiceless and underprivileged in society and would therefore never deliberately damage anyone's image.
In a Facebook post on May 14, he apologised to the businessman for causing damage to his reputation.
“It may interest you to know that I've spent my adult life, fighting for the voiceless, underprivileged persons especially women and children, and minority groups. However, I must admit that I was misinformed on this particular matter. I am grateful to you for the opportunity to apologise to bring finality to the matter.
“I deeply regret any distress or damage these false statements may have caused you and your reputation. It was never my intention to propagate falsehoods or tarnish your name in any way,” the post read.
He continued “Please accept my heartfelt apologies. I am committed to setting the record straight and ensuring that the truth is known. If there is anything I can do to make amends, please do not hesitate to let me know.”
His comments follow a ruling by an Accra High Court ordering him to retract and apologise to Mr Zein, for the defamatory publication he made against him, using the same medium he used to defame the entrepreneur.
In December 2021, Mr Zein sued A-Plus for defamation.
Mr Zein alleged that the musician used his picture along with alleged defamatory comments posted on Facebook on December 6, 2021, were calculated to injure and destroy his hard-earned reputation.
The writ sought, among other things, general damages of GH₵10 million and an order directing A-Plus to retract the said defamatory comment and picture through the same medium used to defame him.
