Entering the corporate world as an intern can be daunting, but my experience at StarLife Assurance has been nothing short of enlightening and empowering. StarLife is undoubtedly an employer of choice that encompasses a variety of characteristics that make it highly sought after in the job market. Most interns at StarLife describe their experience working with the Company as nothing but great, amazing and very beneficial.
At StarLife Assurance, interns are not just temporary workers; they are integral members of the team, valued for their fresh perspectives and unique contributions. From day one, I was entrusted with meaningful projects and responsibilities at the Brand and Communications Department that allowed me to apply my skills and knowledge in a real-world setting. Whether it was writing, updating the intranet, or assisting with client interactions, I was allowed to make a tangible impact and learn invaluable lessons along the way.
One of the most striking aspects of StarLife Assurance is its commitment to coaching and professional development. As an intern, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Brand and Communications who provided guidance, support, and feedback throughout my internship journey. She offered career advice, industry insights and helped me to navigate complex challenges.
As a forward-looking employer, StarLife places strong emphasis on providing training programs to interns to help them settle into their roles. I was fortunate to participate in training sessions covering topics such as Anti-Money Laundering, Risk Management, Compliance, and other pivotal areas crucial to the company's operations.
Another important lesson I learnt at StarLife is the fact that collaboration is at the heart of StarLife’s work culture. StarLife promotes a collaborative environment where employees are encouraged to share ideas, perspectives and expertise. The company recognizes that effective teamwork leads to enhanced productivity, innovation and employee satisfaction.
Moreover, I was intrigued by the 'Open Door Policy' practised by most Heads of Departments at StarLife. For instance, when I received an assignment during my initial week and required input from various Heads of Department (HoDs), I was pleasantly surprised by the warm reception and prompt provision of relevant information from all HoDs.
I was particularly heartened to learn that several staff members had begun their journey at StarLife as interns and were subsequently retained. This deliberate policy underscores the company's commitment to harnessing the talents of diligent interns, instilling in me a sense of optimism that I too might one day seize such a rare opportunity to contribute to the company.
Finally, my internship stint at StarLife Assurance has been truly transformative. From engaging work assignments to coaching and an inclusive work culture, I am thankful for the chance to have been part of such an exceptional organization. For anyone contemplating an internship in the life insurance industry, StarLife Assurance Company undoubtedly stands out as the destination of choice.
