Actress Fella Makafui has called for increased patronage of Ghanaian films, emphasising their role in advancing the local movie industry.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, she underscored the importance of support from both investors and fans to support filmmakers.
According to Fella Makafui, heightened public interest in Ghanaian films translates to financial gains, enabling producers to finance subsequent projects.
“I feel it all boils down to the support. Because if I invite you to my movie and at the of the day we have to premier it and people come in their numbers, we are going to get our returns to produce another movie,” she said,
Fella Makafui added “I think that's the only thing we will urge Ghanaians to channel more energy into - support the craft.”
The actress also highlighted the industry's need for investors including corporate Ghana, whom she said can support films through product placement and others.
Despite the challenges confronting movie producers, Fella Makafui remains optimistic about the industry's prospects for growth.
She cited her recent production experiences, including receiving support from musician Kuami Eugene without charge, as evidence of positive developments.
“I am seeing changes in the industry. Last year when I co-produced Serwaa, the series with Farmhouse, it was massive. Even for this movie, I am so grateful, the support is so massive,” she said.
The actress is promoting her new movie Resonance. The film revolves around an investigation into the death of a new artist.
The premiere for Resonance comes off on Saturday, May 11, at the Silverbird Cinema.
