Abdulai Zalia, 27, was apprehended by the West Mamprusi Police Command for allegedly abducting a 13-month-old infant at Walewale in the North East Region.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, April 18, 2024, while the baby's mother was asleep in an open area of their residence.
Upon returning home late from watching a football match, the baby's father noticed the absence of the child beside his sleeping wife, prompting the couple to promptly report the situation to the police.
Acting swiftly, the Crime Investigative Department (CID) took custody of the 13-month-old baby and arrested the suspected abductor, Abdulai Zalia, on the same day of the incident.
Some locals allege that the accused woman, who hails from Nalerigu, has a history of mental illness and has been involved in petty thefts within the vicinity.
The police have initiated investigations into the matter, with plans to arraign the woman before the Walewale Court of Law on Friday, April 19.
