Nigerian comedian Basketmonth has tipped America's Dave Chappelle and Canada's Russel Peters as his favourites in the comedy business.
According to Basketmouth, while he is honoured to be touted one of Africa's greatest comedians, there are people he also looks up to for inspiration, especially Dave Chappelle who he describes as "comedy god."
"I’ll take it in but trust me I’ve seen and worked with some other comedians that I respect and consider some of the greatest like Russel Peters, Dave Chappelle , DL Hughley, Tony Roberts and a lot of other guys that I've seen their work and worked with locally as well. I work hard, I try my best to stay on top of my game and a time will come that I will be the greatest alive, but right now I don’t think I’m that guy. Because I still have some people, like Dave Chappelle, he’s a god with lowercase 'g'. He is the kind of comedian you watch and think to yourself, why didn’t I think about this?" he told Joy News' Becky in an interview.
He further noted that when he sees a comedian that can push his mind to that limit where even if they had left him in the kitchen for ten years, he still would not be able to get to, he gives them the respect.
"Dave Chappelle, Eddy Murphy and all those guys, they have those stuff but Dave Chappelle, Russel Peters are my favorites," he indicated.
David Khari Webber Chappelle is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He starred in and co-created the satirical comedy sketch series Chappelle's Show (2003–2006) before quitting in the middle of production during the third season.
After a hiatus, Chappelle returned to performing stand-up comedy across the U.S. By 2006, Chappelle was called the "comic genius of America" by Esquire and, in 2013, "the best" by a Billboard writer. In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked him No. 9 in their "50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time".
