The trio from HOPFA Educational Centre have claimed the ultimate at the 5th edition of the Luv FM Primary Schools Quiz, after beating Afaus Lovely School and American Dream Educational Complex.
After three grueling rounds of tough questions, the champions, coming into the contest for the first time, bagged 43 points, while Afaus Lovely School obtained 31 points to place second and American Dream Educational Complex, third with 19 points.
The keenly contested competition challenged the students on their subjects of study and their knowledge acquisition, including spelling bee, riddles and general knowledge questions.
HOPFA topped the first two rounds convincingly, with American Dream claiming the third round but failing to overtake their counterparts and ending up in third place behind Afaus Lovely who put up a spirited performance to emerge first runner-up.
The grand finale was opened by Relationships Manager at Luv Fm, Isaac Antwi who stated that, “The competition motivates and engages schools, teachers and students to put up their best efforts”.
“This competition will be consistent in providing primary schools the avenue to compete and learn in the process,” he added.
The highly competitive Luv FM Primary Schools Quiz competition started on Monday, February 26, with a display of intellectual prowess among the 36 participating schools at the preliminary stage.
The Quiz was conducted by award-winning journalist Erastus Asare Donkor and KNUST professor, Dr. Peter Arthur.
Dr. Arthur was impressed with the performance of the students and pointed out that, “These kids are a great prospect for the future if we can harness their abilities for good”.
Prizes
The winning contestants from HOPFA Educational Centre were presented with the ultimate trophy, while runners-up were awarded medals, cash prizes, a 50-inch flat screen TV, mobile phones for each contestant, and assorted products from sponsors including Bigoo, Top Choco, Perfect Series textbooks and exercise books from Madam Catherine.
This victory comes with the bragging rights of being the best primary school in Kumasi.
The 5th edition of the Luv FM Primary Schools Quiz was sponsored by Pepsodent Cavity Fighter Toothpaste, OMES Original Lemonade Charcoal Toothpaste, Flora tissues, Bigoo, Top Choco, Madam Catherine, Book Care, Woodin, Perfect Grade Publications and Stationery, and Franco Trading Enterprise.
