In a bid to elevate the discourse on nutrition and its critical impact on communities, journalists from across Ghana have been called upon to harness their influence for the betterment of society.
The clarion call came during a media training workshop on nutrition, organized by Africa Catalyzing Action For Nutrition (AfriCAN), under the guidance of its trustee, Professor Francis B. Zotor, and the skilled coordination of Dr Charity Binka.
The workshop, held at the Stevens Hotel Ho, sought to empower media professionals with the tools and knowledge to effectively communicate the benefits of good nutrition to the wider public.
Recognizing the pivotal role that journalists play in shaping public opinion and behaviour, the training emphasised the power of media in fostering positive change.
Professor Francis B. Zotor, AfriCAN's esteemed trustee, highlighted the urgent need for increased awareness regarding nutrition.
“Good nutrition is not just a personal choice; it is a societal imperative, stated Professor Zotor. “As journalists, you have the power to not only inform but also inspire change within communities” he noted.
Professor Zotor urged participants to see themselves not just as reporters but as agents of change. “Your words have the power to nourish minds and bodies alike. Let us work together to build a healthier, more vibrant society for all.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in lively discussions and practical sessions aimed at honing their skills in reporting on nutrition-related matters.
From the importance of balanced diets to the impact of malnutrition on public health, journalists delved into various aspects of the nutrition landscape.
Dr Charity Binka, the workshop coordinator, underscored the role of the media in dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding nutrition. “In a world inundated with information, journalists serve as the gatekeepers of truth. We must equip ourselves with accurate knowledge to combat misinformation and promote healthy choices” she urged.
Participants were excited about the workshop as they were equipped with a deeper understanding of nutrition and its far-reaching effects on society.
Armed with this knowledge, they expressed a renewed commitment to leveraging their platforms for the greater good of the public.

The call to action resonated strongly with attendees, who pledged to incorporate nutrition-focused stories into their media coverage. By shining a spotlight on the benefits of good nutrition, these journalists aim to empower individuals and communities to make healthier choices.
The media training workshop on nutrition, led by AfriCAN and its dedicated team, marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of informed decision-making and wellness across the country.
