Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, who contested against Farouk Aliu Mahama in the Yendi Constituency's parliamentary primary held on January 27, has expressed disappointment in the decision of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) National Executive Council (NEC) to confirm him as the candidate for the December 7 election.
She described the decision as surprising and not thoroughly considered. Nonetheless, she has chosen to accept it in the interest of the party and the government.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, April 9, she urged her supporters to embrace the decision and rally behind Mr. Mahama to secure victory for the party in the upcoming election.
“I have noted with surprise and sadness the decision of the NEC of our Party to declare my opponent, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 parliamentary elections for the Yendi Constituency.
"I strongly disagree with this decision but in the supreme interest of the Party, the President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Presidential Candidate of the party, H. E. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and all well-meaning members of our esteemed party, I respect the party’s decision,” she said.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced the incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the forthcoming December elections.
This determination was made following a pivotal meeting addressing diverse issues.
The party disclosed this through a press release issued on Tuesday, April 9, and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
