President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini, has stressed the need for the tartan tracks at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium to be watered at least three times a week post the African Games.
The maintenance of the facilities used to host the games has become an issue of concern because of Ghana’s checkered history when it comes to maintaining facilities.
Bawa Fuseini said watering the tracks will ensure the Mondo certified tracks last beyond ten years and keep them in shape for elite competitions.
“We need to water it,” he told Joy Sports on Saturday.
“It keeps the running surface in very good condition and fresh. And it can last about 10 years or 15 years. But if you don't do that, within three, four years, you see it cracking. So we must.
“We have to discuss it with the university authorities and the ministry that the tracks at Legon Stadium must be watered at least three times in a week for us to keep its quality and its standard to the next 10 years.”
