President Akufo-Addo has appointed Deputy Minister for Energy, Herbert Krapa as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
This follows the resignation of the previous chairman, Keli Gadzekpo, on Tuesday, March 26.
Mr. Gadzeko, who had chaired the electricity company since his appointment in 2017 by then Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, resigned from his role in a letter addressed to President Akufo-Addo.
His resignation will, however, take effect on Tuesday, 9 April 2024.
The latest development comes at a time when Ghana's energy sector is facing some challenges, with the Electricity Company of Ghana being chastised for its inability to keep the power on consistently.
Already, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to present to it a comprehensive report of its operations in relation to tariff revenue allocation, regulatory audit data and operational matters, among others by close of day April 2, 2024.
Per the PURC orders, the ECG has until the close of today March 27, to publish a load management timetable.
But the first order demanding that the ECG pays all power producers under the water cashfall mechanism expired on Monday 25th March without ECG adhering to the directive.
This has led to some concerns with many Ghanaians asking government to intervene and call ECG to order
