Goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi, spent the entire AFCON 2023 campaign on the bench for Ghana, with Richard Ofori getting the nod, under former coach Chris Hughton.
The decision received a lot of backlash, with Ghana eventually exiting the competition at the group stages after a 2-2 draw against Mozambique, with Ofori contributing to the collapse after some questionable goalkeeping.
Ati-Zigi, however returned to the Black Stars starting xi, in Otto Addo's first game back in charge of the team, as Ghana lost 2-1 to rivals Nigeria on Friday.
Otto Addo, in his post match assessment, credited the St. Gallen shot-stopper for his performance on the day, and attributed his decision to start the former U-20 goalkeeper to his regular game time at club level.
"Ati-Zigi had a good match. I gave him the start because he is a regular player at his club," Otto Addo said.
"Frederick [Asare] is new and young. I think he made a good first impression.
"He is very calm on the ball and has a very good technique. Jojo [Wollacott] at the moment is not playing at his club, so it will be difficult to say he will be number 1," he added.
Ghana will face Uganda in their friendly game of the March international window on Tuesday in Morocco.
