Ghana's Alex Amankwah failed to add to the country's medal tally at the ongoing African Games after finishing fifth in the 800m final event on Wednesday evening.
The event, which happened on Day 3 of the track and field event, saw the Ghanaian miss out on a podium finish at the Games.
Amankwah had sealed a place in the final a day before with a time of 1:48.93.
However, the final proved too tough a contest for him to finish in the first three places as he settled for the fifth position.
The race was won by Kenya's Aron Cheminingwa with a timing 1:45.72s while his countryman, Alex Ngeno also clinched the silver. The bronze medal went to Botswana's Tumo Nkape.
Amankwah started his collegiate sports career at the University of Alabama, where he set a school record and received First Team All-American honours in the indoor 800m.
Despite having qualified for the 800m at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China, visa concerns prohibited him from competing. He also competed for Ghana in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2015 African Games.
