From a dream of providing quality poultry products for the Ghanaian market, and enhancing job creation, Ghana’s CIMG Agric Marketing Company of the Year 2022, Newage Agric Solutions Ltd has finally ventured into the poultry industry with its latest product; Evivi Happy Chicken.
This initiative forms part of activities the company is implementing under the consortium-led HAPPY Program and a footprint of the program called the HAPPY Broiler Project.
Newage Agric Company Ltd presented some boxes of the products to the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the HAPPY Program; Agri-Impact Limited, to signify the start of mass production of the poultry products by the company.
Receiving the presentation, the Chief Finance Director of Agri-Impact Group, Evelyn Denchern Braimah expressed the excitement of her company at the feat achieved by Newage under the project, describing them as being the partners that have been pacesetters in all the things being done under the HAPPY Program.
“They’ve done the onboarding and training of youth in poultry (broiler) farming, and actually, at this stage, for them to bring a finished product, we’re amazed at how far they’ve gone with this,” she told the Press.
Madam Braimah expressed satisfaction at the involvement of women in the training spearheaded by the Newage Academy – a subsidiary of the Newage Group.
“For the project, we targeted to have 70% women involved, so the fact that they have more women on board is exciting to us. And the fact that the beneficiaries have learnt a lot is also super exciting,” she said.
She revealed that the trainees could have access to some catalytic funding to help them establish their own poultry businesses – something that remains the focus of the HAPPY Program.
“We also have some catalytic funding that can support beneficiaries who are serious about the project. If Newage identifies them to be serious, which I foresee, then they can take advantage of these funding to create their own businesses. That’s the focus of this; helping young people create their own businesses. We’re grateful to Newage for being a partner on this project and taking the lead on most of the things,” Mrs. Evelyn Denkyem Braimah stated.
The General Manager for the Newage Agric Solutions Ltd, Martin Nartey explained that the rationale of the presentation was to showcase to the PMU what the trainees under the HAPPY Broiler Project have been able to do.
“We on-boarded interested participants; and trained them on the whole broiler value chain. So we’re just showing the PMU what these youth, who were brought on the project that we’re all participating in, have done, so that whenever they see these products on the market, they can be able to attribute it to these youth who are participants in the HAPPY Program,” he explained.
He explained further that the 21 participants, mostly females, underwent an eight (8) weeks intensive training where they received practical training in broiler production, as well as hands-on marketing and other soft skills trainings. This foremost initiative saw partnerships between Newage Academy representing the Newage Group, Rosons Foods Ltd, Farm 360 Ltd and Afrigem Global.
“These individuals are leaving the Newage Academy empowered; knowing how to handle themselves and to be able to run their own businesses. One thing is that Newage Academy and Newage, as a Group, will do is to support them in any line of agribusiness that they will start so as to ensure that they have successful businesses. This is to help them avoid the many mistakes that others make on their entrepreneurial journey.
“Newage Academy is here to change the entire narrative of agriculture in Ghana; where the youth will be empowered to be able to have practical appreciation of what the industry actually needs to be able to succeed,” Mr. Nartey explained.
