Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has sent a warm message to his fellow Muslims in Ghana as this year's month-long Ramadan fasting begins.
Ahead of the official start of the fasting in Ghana on March 12, Dr Bawumia urged Muslims to use the opportunity of the Holy month to be closer to Allah and show compassion to the poor and the needy.
"Hajia Samira and I, join fellow Muslims to welcome the blessed month of Ramadan, with immense joy," Dr Bawumia wrote in a post on his social media handle.
"Ramadan presents a unique opportunity to all of us, to renew our commitment to the Almighty Allah, as well as show love and compassion to the poor and the needy," he added.
The Vice President also urged his fellow Muslims to also use the month of devotion and sacrifice, to pray for loved ones and the country as well.
Fasting in the Islamic month of Ramadan is obligatory for adult Muslim. During this period, one is expected to abstain from food, water and social vices from dawn to sunset for a month.
