Following a suspected attack at Nagudi in Togo, over 200 residents from border communities have sought refuge in various parts of the North East Region.
Residents from Tantra 2, Tambeng, and Jangbande evacuated their communities, fleeing to nearby towns and villages like Yunyoo, Bunkpurugu, and Wanchiki for safety.
The alleged attack targeted a Togolese community, reportedly carried out by approximately 10 unidentified armed individuals on motorbikes, prompting residents to flee in fear.
Tragically, the attack resulted in two fatalities.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has been tasked to determine the exact number of individuals who have fled Togo in the wake of the incident.
Joseph Luknan, the District Chief Executive of Bunkpurugu, confirmed the incident, revealing that armed individuals targeted four young men at a store around 9 pm, resulting in the loss of two lives.
Security measures in the area have been heightened, with ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
However, security forces are unable to ascertain whether the suspects are jihadists or common criminals.
