Ministerial nominee for Tourism Andrew Egyapa Mercer has emphasised the importance of completing the National Cathedral project, citing its significance for the nation.
Addressing queries from the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, March 5, the Sekondi Member of Parliament highlighted the substantial state investment already poured into the project, deeming it essential to see it through to completion.
The Sekondi MP rebutted claims dubbing it as the "world's most expensive hole," asserting that such characterisations fail to acknowledge its broader national value.
He underscored the necessity for unity among Ghanaians to ensure the project's fruition, emphasising that allowing it to remain incomplete after significant state investment would be counterproductive.
The lawyer stressed the importance of leveraging state resources for the Cathedral's construction, emphasising its potential to contribute positively to the country's development agenda.
"Of course, we don’t have unlimited resources, but some funding has gone in there, and I am not sure whether the jest that it is the world’s most expensive hole is palatable to anybody.
"It is our national asset that is in that state, and it has to be completed, to my mind."
