Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has assured athletes participating in the 2023 African Games of their safety during their stay in Ghana.
The country is set to welcome about 13,000 athletes and officials for the 15-day continental event.
Close to 20 countries have so far arrived with the total expected to reach 55 participants.
“The deployment of security guards assigned to both day and night activities so there will be 24 hours security around all the Games Village,” said Mustapha, at a press briefing on Monday.
“The athletes who are coming, will come safe here safe, participate in all the competitions safe and leave this country safe.
“The National Security Minister has assured us, also the Minister of Interior and Minister for Defence. They've all put a team together and are working around to clock to ensure the safety of all athletes and officials.”
It is the first time Ghana is hosting the multi-sports event with $195m spent on facilities - Games Village, Borteyman Sports Complex and Legon Stadium.
The opening ceremony is schedule for March 8, 2024.
