Residents in Kpeve in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region are expected to receive improved healthcare services following the remodeling of the community health centre by the Korean Foundation for International Health, (KOFIH).
The remodeled facility is equipped with the requisite logistics to provide primary healthcare including improved maternal services, to eradicate maternal mortality and complications.
The remodeled facility was constructed at the cost of GHȼ1,071,000, under the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Healthcare Project being implemented by KOFIH.
It has an anti-natal unit stocked with an ultrasound machine, a post-natal unit, a delivery unit with all the needed logistics to ensure safe delivery, dispensary among other departments needed to meet basic health demands.
The provision of the remodeled centre ended the era of operating in a structure that had limited space, impeding quality healthcare delivery.
The Country Director for KOFIH, Booking Yang, lauded the role the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service played in ensuring the success of the project and serving its purpose of making a lasting impression on health outcomes in the region.
He assured of his outfit's continued support to improving infrastructure and logistics in the country’s health sector to complement efforts in achieving universal health coverage.
“As we move forward KOFIH reiterates its commitment to continue to support Ghana’s healthcare sector”, he said.
He indicated that the commissioning of the facility signifies a leap closer to achieving the objective of building a healthier Ghana.
“Together, we have laid a foundation for a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all”, he stressed.
The Outgoing Deputy Minister of Health, Mahama Asei Seini indicated that the government has begun implementing an intervention dubbed “Network of Practice” to strengthen primary healthcare.
“The Network of Practice Initiative will lead to improvement in the provision of health facilities, enhance staff capacity, community participation, and collaboration between the health facilities”, he said.
He appreciated efforts by KOFIH on contributing to improve infrastructure in the health sector as it commissioned its 8th facility constructed in 2023.
He further indicated that “The reconstruction and equipping of the Kpeve Health Centre are perfectly aligned with the central government, ministry and its agencies to strengthen healthcare towards the achievement of universal health coverage”.
The Volta Regional Director of Health, Dr. Chrisantus Kubio underscored that KOFIH’s intervention has contributed to the improved accessibility for maternal newborn, and child healthcare services in the Hohoe and Afadzato South District within the last two years.
He said KOFIH has sponsored the provision of a teleconsultation centre at the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, procured medical logistics, built and equipped laboratories, for CHPS Compounds and health centres, and built staff capacity.
The Afadzato South District Chief Executive, James Etornam Flolu entreated Ghanaians to cultivate the culture of routine health check-ups.
Kpeve traditional authorities appreciated the provision of the facility by KOFIH and appealed for the construction of a nurses’ quarters.
