Musician Fameye says he holds the Ghana Music Awards on a higher pedestal than the Grammy Awards.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he explained that, unlike the Grammys Awards, he does not need any ticket or a connection to a label or industry mogul to get nominated for the GMAs.
Fameye told the host Andy Dosty that as an artiste based in Ghana, GMA’s board and academy hear his work, and nominate him in categories they deem fit without talking to anyone.
The ‘Praise’ hit-maker stated that for years the yearly award show has been all everyone knows and values, thus the sudden praise of foreign award shows over local ones is unfortunate.
Fameye admitted that having his name go international may be good for his brand but it is his fans that elevate and place value on his work.
For this reason, the ‘Nothing I Get’ hit-maker said he is content making music for these people, who watch the GMA over Grammys and get him nominated.
