Two health facilities in the Kwahu Bepong township within the Kwahu South Municipality in the Eastern Region have been shut down following attacks on the chief's palace and some police officers.
The facilities, including a CHPS compound and a health centre, were shut down per the directives of the regional security council.
According to Municipal Health Director, Dr Kwaku Owusu, this approach was to ensure that all health workers were safe.
Speaking in an interview on JoyFM’s Newsnight on February 5, he said, “So far, from the inquiries that I have made, our health facilities have been advised to close down for today by the security agency. But so far, none of our staff have been injured; all of them are safe.”
When asked if the hospital would be open tomorrow, he said it would depend on the general situation within the area.
“Hopefully, but we have to also look at the situation and get the proper advice from the security agencies. The safety of our staff is paramount to us so we have to make sure that they are safe to be able to conduct their activities in a serene atmosphere,” he added.
This means all sick members of the community will have to visit neighbouring health centres for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested an additional 46 individuals in connection with the attacks on the Bepong chief's palace and some police officers in Kwahu Bepong in the Eastern Region.
