There is brewing tension in the New Juaben traditional area after a group of individuals, under the supervision of the New Juaben Divisional Police Commander, broke into the stool room of the Adwampong royal family in Koforidua.
Their action comes after the queen mother of the Adwampong royal family resisted the unlawful removal of the black stool, which is intended for the enstoolment of a new Chief for the family.
The enstoolment is scheduled for later this evening at the Yiadom Hwedie Palace by the Paramount Chief, Daasebere Kwaku Boateng III.
According to the Queen mother, Nana Akosua Afrakoma, who has been in charge of the stool after she was enstooled 29 years ago, the claimant who is to be enstooled tonight is not known and has not been nominated, hence her resistance.
“I got a call yesterday evening that they tried to take the black stool but couldn't. This morning, they called the police to break the door and take the stool.
“This is not the right way. We're all one; I've been on the stool for 29 years. Today, they came for the stool, but I don't even know the new king they're choosing. I'm not aware. They've used the wrong way to break into my home for the stool. They're doing what they want, but I leave it to the Gods.
However, the group, under the supervision of Koforidua Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Baah, together with heavily armed men from the Counter Terrorism Unit, broke into the stool room and changed the locks.
Nana Akosua Afrakoma expressed surprise at the police's behavior, stating that she is unaware of the installation of a new chief on the stool.
She added that “As the queen mother, I know nothing about all this happening. They can take the stool; I remain the queen."
Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested by the police.
