Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) nationwide have been given until the close of business on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, to coordinate with agents for the linking of their accounts with either the Ghana Card or Tax Identification Number (TIN).
Failure to comply will result in the blocking of their SIM cards, according to a directive issued by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications on January 30, 2024.
This decision comes after extensive discussions with the leadership of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), as stated in the chamber's official announcement.
The directive specifically mentions that "All agent accounts without Ghana Cards will be blocked on the 1st of February 2024."
The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications emphasized that relevant information regarding this exercise has been communicated directly to affected agents through various channels leading up to the deadline.
In a press release, the chamber issued a final call to action to agents, urging them to regularize their operations by linking their accounts with their Ghana Cards or TIN.
The statement warned that failure to do so by the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, would result in the blocking of their accounts.
For agents who find their accounts suspended on February 1, 2024, the Chamber outlined a recourse. They can visit any of the operator outlets with their Ghana Card or TIN to complete the necessary linking process.
Acknowledging the importance of mobile financial services in fostering financial inclusion and economic growth, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications affirmed its commitment to delivering convenient, secure, and accessible financial services to all Ghanaians.
