Black Stars defender Denis Odoi has opened up about the goals Ghana conceded against Mozambique in their final Group B game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
The Club Brugge man described the two goals as stupid and that the team cannot compete by giving away goals like that.
Andre Ayew gave away a penalty in the 91st minute while Richard Ofori gifted Mozambique a corner by making contact with a harmless ball, leading to the equaliser.
The story is the same with the other four goals the team conceded in the tournament.
It is now down to delicate mathematics as to whether the Black Stars can progress to the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams, but chances are looking slim.
Speaking to the media at the mixed zone after the game, Odoi was very brutal in his assessment of the team.
“If you look at the goals we conceded, we can’t say we deserve any more. It’s just about the goals we conceded; they are stupid," he said.
“Stupid mistakes and if you give away the balls like that, we cannot compete.”
Ghana is third in Group B with two points from a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in their opening game, a 2-2 draw against Egypt in the second and another 2-2 draw versus Mozambique in the final match they had under control for more than 90 minutes.
