The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has joined the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) in embarking on an industrial strike.
In a press release signed by the General Secretary, Mark Dankyira Korankye, on January 22, the Union stated that despite their demand for the restoration of their tier-two in October 2023 and other conditions of service, the government has failed to fulfil its promises.
“It is obvious that the patience of the university workers has waned and the continued lethargy of government agencies in addressing labour issues will no more he entertained.
“TEWU of TUC (GH), is by this statement calling on its members in the Public Universities to join the going strike in solidarity and especially on the non-payment of Tier 2 pension contributions by the government that have been outstanding for nine months,” the release read.
The release called on the government to settle the tier two arrears so that their members are guaranteed a dignified retirement.
