Youngster Lamine Camara became the youngest player to score a brace at the Africa Cup of Nations (2023) since Ali Zitouni for Tunisia in 2000, as Senegal defeated Gambia.
The defending champions claimed a 3-0 victory in their opening game at the 2023 AFCON with the 20-year-old scoring a brace.
It didn't take long for the Teranga Lions to settle into the game as Pape Gueye opened the scoring after just four minutes. The midfielder was at the right place at the right time as he was teed up by Sadio Mane.
The Scorpions should have broken the deadlock before conceding but Edouard Mendy made a brilliant save to deny them before the Senegalese took the lead.
Gambia were unfortunate late in the first half as Ebou Adams was sent off for violent conduct before the break.
Senegal made the numerical advantage count just nine minutes into the second period of the game as Camara's low finish in the box beat the Gambian goalkeeper.
The youngster then put the game beyond the reach of Gambia with arguably the best goal of the tournament so far four minutes away from full-time.
With the victory over Gambia, Senegal go top of Group C with their next game against Cameroon who play Guinea in the other Group C opener.
