Nigerian singer Yemi Alade, Ivorian band Magic System and Egyptian singer Mohamed Ramadan rocked the stage at the 2023 African Cup of Nations opening ceremony.
The ceremony took place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday, January 13.
The acts performed their AFCON song ‘Akwaba’ released a little over a month prior to the tournament.
A day before her performance, Yemi Alade opened up about her excitement to mount the stage at the opening ceremony.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the singer revealed this is an opportunity she had been praying for, for years.
Calling this a ‘dream come true’, Yemi Alade wrote, “I can't buttress the importance of prayer and speaking into existence your heart desires. Since 2016, I have desired to perform at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by 100’s of dancers and millions of people."
