Commissioner of Police, George Alex Mensah (RTD) says the masterminds behind the alleged leaked draft report purportedly emanating from the committee investigating the suspected plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), are seeking to tarnish his image to thwart his political ambitions.
According to him, upon reviewing the leaked report, he was certain it did not originate from the committee. He believes it was an attempt by a group of individuals to destroy his political career.
Speaking in an interview on JoyFM’s Newsnight he said, “When I saw the report, after reading it I saw that this cannot be a report from the committee. Luckily, today, the chairman has come to verify that what has been brought out is not from the committee.
“Somebody just wants to disrupt Commissioner George Alex Mensah (RTD). Somebody wants to spoil my political career. Somebody who has the intention to destroy me wants to come and disturb me at this particular time when we are going for our primaries but God being so good it is not going to work,” he said.
COP Mensah said he was confident that when the committee releases its original report he would be vindicated stressing that “COP Alex George Mensah did not go there to commit any crime."
The retired serviceman will be contesting the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming January 27 primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Early on January 10, the Chairman of Parliament’s ad hoc committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, refuted the content of a leaked draft report.
According to him, “With the greatest of respect, this is not the handiwork of the committee.”
He explained that members of the committee are still waiting on the clerk to tease out a report for their consideration.
