The Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Prof. Dorothy Yeboah-Manu is stressing the importance of extracurricular activities for personal growth and development.
Speaking at the 2nd edition of the Nyansapo Dialogue Series organized by the Advancement and Alumni Relations Office of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, she was indicated it’s also crucial for career success.
“You’re going to work with people, so you need to use this place to develop your ‘people’ skills. There are so many programmes on campus you can engage in. Be serious with you academics but do other things that can shape up your future,” she said.
The Nyansapo Dialogue Series, a collaboration with the KNUST SRC brings together selected distinguished KNUST alumni to interact with students to exchange ideas to inform a more responsible attitude towards the realization of KNUST’s vision.
Prof. Yeboah-Manu joined other personalities like Citi FM/Citi TV CEO, Samuel Attah Mensah, Actress Nikki Samonas and CEO of Smartline Publishing Limited, Elliot Agyare.
Mr. Samuel Attah Mensah who read BSc Computer Science was also emphatic on the need sacrifice for maximum results.
“In every enterprise, if you’re not thinking about sacrifice, then you’re on the wrong footing. Not every attempt or effort will pay off. Natural progress of tings is that invest in your life, invest in others, sacrifice for yourself, sacrifice for others, be selfless in your pursuit and progress will follow you,” he said.
Nikki Samonas who found herself at the Communication Design department took the students through how like-minded colleagues helped her cope with daily struggles.
“I had friends who shared with my headspace. Weekdays, I’m here, weekends I’m in Accra working and I did this for the four years,” she noted.
With the exploits in the technology space, Mr. Agyare urged the students to leverage the opportunities available to build fortune.
