The Founder and CEO of Semanhyia Learning and Development Farms, Fredrick Benneh Frimpong, a prominent livestock breeding facility in Berekum Senase, is grappling with the imminent eviction of his goats from the land where he has invested over GH¢1 million for the past five years.
The Berekum area chiefs have mandated the evacuation, citing a long-standing taboo that prohibits the presence of goats in the town.
Mr Frimpong revealed that, although the taboo has been in existence since his childhood, it was not strictly enforced until a recent funeral of a chief led to the slaughter of stray goats as a measure to uphold the tradition.
“When this order came, people were spreading rumours, and in about three days, a group of young individuals with machetes came to the community and killed all the goats.
"Everyone was angered and puzzled,” he shared on his YouTube channel, "Farming in Africa."
Following the incident, Frimpong was summoned to the chief’s palace and given a two-week ultimatum to vacate the land.
He expressed frustration over the situation, highlighting the extensive investments made in his farming facility, which includes warehouses, livestock, feed, and labour, over the past five years.
The looming eviction has left Frimpong at a crossroads, facing the potential loss of his substantial investments.
The clash between tradition and modern agricultural practices underscores the challenges farmers may encounter when local customs clash with their livelihoods.
