A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante believes it is high time for the government to undertake a reshuffle of its ministerial appointees.
He argued that non-performing ministers are hindering the fulfillment of the government's developmental agenda and the delivery of its promises.
Speaking on JoyNews, he recalled that at the party’s Thanksgiving service last year, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, urged government officials who believe they are not performing well to resign ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The NPP General Secretary stated, "If you are a CEO, deputy, or MMCE and you believe you can no longer work for the government, resign and let others do the work if you are not included in the reshuffle. It is time for a change and for others to continue the work. If new people come and work, we will have victory in the 2024 elections."
Reacting to this comment, Dr. Asah-Asante emphasized that if the government does not undertake a reshuffle, it may regret its actions later.
The political scientist said he was happy that the General Secretary brought it up.
“We have told this government time and again that there is a need to change to change the team players, reshuffle so to speak, and bring more energies to bear on the work of government," he said on the AM Show on January 3.
"The government has been so adamant in this regard. Anytime you talk about it, the government wants to have different ideas, or the government tells you that we are doing well and that it is waiting for results and all that. Where are the results—the things that we said that we reverted?" he quizzed.
